History

The project and its implementation process were carried out simultaneously. Designs were prepared while the rough construction was ongoing. May 2023 - December 2024

Located on Bahar Street, 13 Nisan Avenue in Ayvalık, CG House is an interior design project that reinterprets the historical fabric of Ayvalık with a contemporary architectural approach. The architectural restoration project was prepared by another firm, and construction permits were obtained; Sade Studio Architecture became involved before construction began. Architectural consultancy, interior design, and site process control undertaken by Sade Studio Architecture aimed to preserve the building's existing identity while offering a balanced transition between functionality and aesthetics.

On the facade, stone cladding was chosen for the ground floor, in accordance with the project, and stone wool was used for thermal insulation. The windows and doors feature frames that are in harmony with the region's architectural style, preserving the original building identity. These details contribute to both the aesthetic and functional aspects of the facade.

In the wooden joinery and shutters produced by our workshop ERDE, the unique texture of Ayvalık has been preserved; white tones have been preferred in the interior to create a spacious and cohesive atmosphere. The green tones chosen for the wooden shutters harmonize with the yellow facade, enlivening the streetscape and bringing the colors of spring into the space. At CG House, a panel shutter system was chosen to emphasize privacy and the unique architectural character of the area. This system was used to revive the details of historical Greek houses, incorporated into the project while remaining faithful to traditional woodworking processes. The entrance door, inspired by the traditional Greek house doors of Ayvalık, retains its original structure by not using a leaf, is supported by a transom window, and is reworked with a modern touch to provide natural ventilation.

Three different ceramic floor coverings are used in the interior plan, creating a unique atmosphere on each floor. On the ground floor, a dark floor separating the kitchen and living area highlights the white base cabinets; while on the upper floor, the warm effect of bone tones creates an intimate touch. On the upper floor, a space designed as a bookcase in the hallway offers a private area for the user.

Due to space limitations, there is no separate area for a dining table in the kitchen. As a solution to this situation, a table made of solid oak wood paneling, which is compatible with the color palette that gives character to the space and is also used on the stair treads, has been designed. This table is mounted with a legless structure to avoid disrupting the flow of passage in the kitchen; thanks to this structural solution, the solid wood table is integrated into the kitchen, increasing the functionality and aesthetics of the space.

In terms of material selection, a quartz countertop and an integrated sink made of the same material have been chosen to achieve minimal simplicity; functionality is ensured in the kitchen with a 45-degree hidden handle base cabinet design. A 45-degree joint design approach has been adopted to resolve the relationship between the refrigerator cabinets and the reinforced concrete column, thus ensuring visual integrity in the kitchen unit. The gas cylinder area is planned on the side facing the seating area of the kitchen.

The lighting design has created a neutral environment while establishing focal points in the space. Regional focal points have been created in the space with different light intensities; in the kitchen area, lighting elements have been planned considering functional usage requirements.

CG House has been reinterpreted with modern lines, drawing inspiration from classic Ayvalık houses; It has created a timeless spatial language with simple details and functional solutions. The project emerges as a unique design where region-specific details are blended with contemporary interpretations.
